In the past, a lot of companies have been routing their customer
service calls to workers overseas and outside the country.
Unfortunately, many consumers have complained about the quality
of service and the language barriers associated with these calls
to a company for service related issues. In response to this
dilemma a lesser known trend is for companies to route calls to
home based call centers.
Thanks to the Internet and better call-routing technology,
many companies are finding they can outsource their order-taking,
sales and problem-solving calls to home-based workers here in the
States. Home based workers here tend to be better educated and
dedicated than their call center counterparts. Home based workers
in the States don't pose some of the problems that using overseas
workers do in regards to foreign languages and accents that
American consumers complain about.
The flexibility of home based call center worker is beneficial to
both the worker and the company. The home based worker is usually
paid based on the minutes that they are on the phone or a
commission on products that are sold if they do sales based calls.
Companies don't have to pay workers to sit idle during slack
periods and workers can benefit by working during high call volume
times.
There are downfalls to working from home with this type of job.
Since this is a legitimate job, many companies want you to be
available to take call at certain times and while others have more
flexible schedules. None of the companies permit background noise
such as barking dogs, screaming kids, babies etc. This will
probably get you fired very quickly. They also require background
checks on you as well, so if you have any issues from the past this
may not work for you.
Most companies require a dedicated phone line, a PC, high speed
Internet access and a separate, private room in the house in which
you will work. The lowest paying jobs, like basic order taking,
will average about $8.00-9.00 an hour while the better paying jobs
will require some sales skills.
